It’s amazing how many people who try to use history to back their claims have no idea what actually went down in the past. Here, Lawrence O’Donnell presents a little history lesson for all those right wingers harping about gay marriage. One thing that he doesn’t touch on, but is still true, is the fact that in the ancient world, gay marriage was not unheard of. In fact, gay marriages were being performed up through the early days of Christian Europe.

While other kids were busy starting lemonade stands, here’s a list of my childhood enterprises:

  • Detective Agency
  • Paranormal Detective Agency
  • Pokemon Card Theft Ring
  • New Age Commune
  • International Crime Syndicate
  • Interior Design Firm
  • Team of Crime Fighting Magical Girls
  • Something Very Sketchy Involving Insider Trading That I Didn’t Really Understand Then and Don’t Really Understand Now.

Moral of the story: Here’s to weird kids.

Dear North Carolina,

This!

Sincerely,

The Good Fairy

This is wonderful and true and heartbreaking all at once. I never really appreciated Maurice Sendack’s work until I got older, which is a shame. But, he leaves behind food for the imagination of children that will last until the end of time. Let’s not mourn his passing but celebrate his life. After all, he’s fine. He’s where the wild things are.

So, I’m thinking of starting a video blog.*

Lately I haven’t done anything beyond posting links and videos and stuff. Which is cool, don’t get me wrong. But I started this blog with the purpose of providing information and bits of wisdom I’ve collected along the way that pertained to being young, gay and spiritual. I wrote a few very wordy posts that I can’t help feel were overlooked because of their length. (I’m really hoping that it’s not because the majority of tumblr users are shallow and only want to see memes, gifs and porn.) While it saddens me to think people really don’t want to read anymore, I have to please the people if I want my message heard, and I’m wondering if what I have to say might come across better in a visual format. I would upload them to youtube and, of course, put them up here on my tumblr. If anyone is even remotely interested in seeing this happen, like or leave a comment or in some way prove I wouldn’t just be talking to myself.

*Now, don’t go expecting anything fancy here. I’m about as technically skilled as I am technically equipped (and all I’ve got in that department is a webcam and good old fashioned gumption). It’ll be a rough start, but it might just evolve over time and get really cool. Or it might completely explode in my face. Mais, c’est la vie.

Alright, this video is pretty campy and the acting is TERRIBLE, but it’s all about something that I think a lot of young gay men today don’t know anything about: the Hanky Code. Some of you might be thinking, “Is this really that important? I thought this was a classy blog!” First off, whoever told you this was the place for class was a dirty rotten liar. Secondly, YES IT’S IMPORTANT! It’s part of our history. You can’t get to where you’re going if you don’t know where you’ve been.

This is a commercial that Ashton Kutcher did for something or other. I don’t really care. But here’s the point. Apparently this add has people up in arms because Kutcher plays into gay stereotypes. To which I say, “so?” Having watched the commercial, I don’t think his character is any more stereotypical than any of the other homosexuals being portrayed on television right now. People hate on me all the time when I say I can’t stand Glee because of how it portrays gay kids in high school. So why is this flamboyant, ridiculously dressed man a problem but Kurt is the voice of gay youth? At least Darl is supposed to be a joke.

A fabulous response to the Dan Savage video. The speaker does a good job of covering all the points that Dan missed. Namely, journalism is no kind of business for pansy-asses who can’t deal with their own bullshit.
